Residential General contracting and construction

Letters of Recommendation
To whom it may concern,
My wife and I are living in Portland Oregon in an area called Multnomah Village. I am retired, and my wife is partially retired. Both of us work/ed in Health Care. We have a large family on the West Coast.
We are delighted to offer a reference without reservation for Paul Berce, who we have known for over four years. He has improved our house over time, replacing all of the fences surrounding our house, since much of it had either fallen down, deteriorated or had gaps where it should have been. The new fence looks like furniture!
Our back garden became a meeting spot for neighbors and family over COVID so we needed a shelter built that would not only be substantial for the weather but also beautiful to look at and rest under. All of that was achieved. Additionally, our front porch had rotted and needed new posts to hold up the roof above it, as well as, make it look a lot nicer than it had originally been crafted. Paul designed all of this.
The front of our driveway had a deep sink hole that needed to have a reinforced concrete apron and driveway section installed since our car drove over it every day and would have fallen through without it. The result is flawless.
Over the years that we have been involved with Paul we have come to feel complete trust in him. I have personally watched the pride he has in his craftsmanship. It is against his nature to not have things done well – if that happens, he corrects problems on his own and acknowledges if there was a particularly unusual issue. He is wonderful with design and he comes up with great ideas and meticulous drawings. He follows through with his work and completes on schedule – any delays are explained and communicated. I have never felt so comfortable having a craftsman of his quality and trustworthiness. He is so easy to discuss things with, has great ideas and is not embarrassed to acknowledge if needs to consult on an issue. He charges fairly for his work and stands by the estimates, unless of course something new and different is found and needs to be evaluated. He adds personal artistic touches as he goes. It is incredibly easy and pleasant to talk with him. He is non defensive and strives to understand.
Sincerely,
S.O. MD

Aloha,
My name is Kathryn York. My husband Dan and | live in Hillsboro, Oregon. We moved
from Qahu To Oregon in April, 2022 to be close to our grandchildren.
Once we settled into our new home, we realized the kitchen needed to be remodeled.
Our realtor recommended a contractor with Hawaii ties, Paul Berce. She shared that he
had completed excellent work for her. We are so happy and grateful for that referral! We
truly appreciated Paul's skills as a contractor and would highly recommend that his
contractor license be granted in his home state of Hawaii (or anywhere else he chooses
to work).
Over the course of our kitchen remodel, Paul was professional, responsive and
proactive. Our project entailed a full demolition of our existing kitchen - adding new
counters and cabinets, lifting the existing ceiling, removing a wall and post and installing
a beam, as well as installing new doors, an additional sink and adding plumbing to
convert an electric stove to gas. Paul worked seamlessly with the plumbing and
electrical subcontractors and also with the city inspectors. Whenever an issue arose, he
resolved it quickly, maintained good relationships with everyone involved, and kept our
project moving forward. His ability to work well with others while ensuring quality was
excellent. In addition, through his network of contacts he provided us with an
exceptional tile installer who created a custom artwork as part of our backsplash.
Paul also worked very well with us. He provided a detailed bid that outlined the scope of
work as well as the timeline. He kept us updated verbally as the project moved along,
and provided detailed documentation with every bill. He always sought our input before
making decisions and really helped us make the most informed decisions possible. One
example was when he helped us choose between dozens of specialty wood varieties
for our new beam. Paul was also respectful of our home. The kitchen is open to our
living and dining room and he ensured that the project space as well as the rest of our
home was kept clean and tidy. We continued to live in the home for the duration of the
project and Paul kept the space safe and clean enough that we felt comfortable having
our grandchildren visit.
Our project was completed on time, on budget, and the results have exceeded our
expectations. We have worked with contractors before (we custom built our house in
Kaaawa in 2008) and Paul is by far the most skilled, respectful and efficient contractor
we have ever worked with.

To Whom it May Concern,
My husband & I moved to Portland, OR after 45 years in the Bay Area of California. We are both production and design professionals in the film and interior design fields, with extensive experience working on projects utilizing contractors.
We did not have any local connections when we moved to Portland, and were most grateful to be referred to Paul Berce by a realtor.
He has done extensive work for us, primarily on exterior projects, and is now our primary go to person for all projects.
Paul has a unique ability to be able to evaluate the needs of a project, provide accurate bids, and deliver the work above and beyond the original scope. He is also a pleasure to work with – flexible, intelligent, transparent, direct and highly competent. He is comfortable working with a wide range of materials and construction techniques, and is able to communicate effectively to arrive at the best solution for design, cost, and scheduling.
Our projects involved a great deal of fence and deck work, and I was initially impressed by the accuracy of his materials list and his awareness of the timber market with a solid cost/benefit approach on materials.
Our lot is irregular, and he was able to solve some tricky layout issues so that the overall execution yielded beautiful straight lines and a most pleasing design.
In addition, he built some very wide rolling gates of wood and welded steel that have an amazing industrial look, were cost effective, and are still functioning well.
He also masterminded the demo of an existing two foot high slab deck that had imbedded plumbing. This presented numerous concerns about damage to the plumbing systems and the proximity to the house foundation. He conducted several drill tests and in every way was thoughtful and competent so that the slab was removed without incident.
We recommend him without reservation for any size project. He will be completely straightforward about any concerns he may have, including any concerns about his availability or limitations, and will make sure the project has the best crew to complete it.
He managed all his subcontractors effectively, so the work proceeded in a most professional and pleasant way. Overall, he is respectful, with excellent listening and analytical skills, and is generally a delight to work with.
Sincerely
F.K.
